The Conyers Police Explorer Post 2222 recently returned from participating in the week-long Alabama Law Enforcement Explorer Academy in Montevallo, Alabama.

The Conyers Explorers, along with other Explorer Posts from Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Georgia, attended classes, participated in marching drills, team building and critical thinking exercises, physical fitness and firearms training.

Explorer Post 2222 is a division of the Conyers Police Department (CPD) consisting of young men and women ages 14-20 interested in learning more about a career in law enforcement. Explorers meet weekly with CPD advisors and learn law enforcement skills such as self-defense, conducting traffic stops and Georgia law.

“The Conyers Explorers Post continues to impress us and represent the Conyers Police and this community at an extremely high level of achievement,” said Chief of Police Gene Wilson. “Their training and subsequent competitions will serve them well as they volunteer at city events while considering possible careers in law enforcement.”

Conyers Explorers conduct fundraisers year-round to fund travel expenses to attend competitions and academies and purchase equipment and uniforms.

For more information on participating in the Conyers Explorers program, contact officer Everett Searcy or officer Patrick Warren at 770-483-6600.
