'Flash mob' giving Dec. 6 to benefit local groups

/

Non-profits across the state and in Rockdale are taking a page from the social phenomenon known as "flash mobs" to raise money for charitable causes on Thursday, Dec. 6.

The Georgia Gives Day, organized by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, asks all Georgia residents to give something on Thursday to a charitable non-profit, including those listed on the website, https://gagivesday.org

Conyers-Rockdale residents can find their money going even further if they donate to Rockdale Emergency Relief, thanks to a matching grant by the SunTrust Foundation.

If RER, which operates a local food pantry and provides rent and utility assistance, raises at least $500 by Dec. 6, it will receive three or four times the amount from the Sun Trust Foundation Financial Wellness Challenge Grant.

Another local group that may benefit from Ga. Gives Day is the Swagger Crew Fit Kidz group. The Conyers-based organization fights childhood obesity through education and weight management and is sponsored by the  Dominy School of Performing Arts on Salem Road. For more information, go to http://www.swaggercrewfitkidz.com.

Partnership for Community Action (PCA), which is in DeKalb and surrounding counties including Rockdale, is also listed on the Ga. Gives Day website.
