Argument leads to Christmas Eve arrest

A Conyers woman was arrested Christmas Eve after falsely reporting her vehicle stolen from the Target parking lot on Ga. Highway 20 following an arguement with her boyfriend.

Carla Minjuan Atkins, 40, of 2609 Belvedere Way, contacted the Conyers Police Department to report her 2008 Mustang was stolen shortly before 9 p.m. while she was shopping in Target.

Atkins allegedly informed officers that she had arrived at the store alone, locked her car and attempted to enter Ross but instead walked to Target. Atkins said she was in the store for only 40 minutes before exiting and finding her car missing. She also she had the only key to her car and she was current on her payments.

After reviewing security footage, officers determined a male got out of the car when Atkins pulled into the parking lot and exited the vehicle. When Atkins walked into the store, the male then got into the car and drove out of the parking lot.

Atkins allegedly denied having a passenger several times before telling officers she had given a male acquaintance a ride to the store. Atkins was asked to call the male passenger, who was then told the police were on the scene, at which time he said, "I can't believe you are doing this."

According to the passenger, he was Atkins boyfriend and had a key to her car. He further stated the couple had a disagreement and she knew he was taking her car to his house in Stone Mountain.

Atkins was arrested and charged with False Report of a Crime.
