UPDATED: County Chief of Staff resigns

Rockdale County's Chief of Staff Greg Pridgeon submitted a letter of resignation last Friday, effective Feb. 1, reportedly to pursue other career opportunities.  

His letter of resignation, which was dated for Monday, January 7, read "It is with ambivalence that I hereby submit my resignation, effective Friday, February 1, 2013.

"Thanks to the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners for allowing me the opportunity to serve as Chief of Staff during the past three years... In spite of periodic difficulties inherent to the position, my over all experience was positive and professionally rewarding. Since the beginning of my employment, I have relied up omy academic studies, experiences, and best practice models from aroudn the country to make significant recommendations for process improvements and enhancements to the efficiency of both teh Executive and Legislative branches."

He concluded, "I will be taking advantage of fantastic opportunities that are being presented to my family and me both, locally and globally."

Pridgeon has served as Rockdale County's Chief of Staff since January 2010. The annual salary for the chief of staff position is about $90,000.

Pridgeon was most recently the chief of staff for the city of Atlanta under Mayor Shirley Franklin. As Atlanta's chief of staff, Pridgeon reportedly received a salary of $166,361, according to a 2007 Atlanta Journal Constitution article. He was also a policy analyst for the Atlanta City Council, worked under three different mayoral administrations, was appointed to finish the District 1 Atlanta city council term in 1993, and was a liason to Rockdale County when he was director of Government Relations for the 1996 Olympic games.

Pridgeon graduated from North Carolina A&T State University with a Bachelor's degree in political science and studied urban planning at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). He and his wife of 33 years live in the Grant Park neighborhood in Atlanta and have three adult children and a daughter-in-law.
