First Baptist Church of Conyers presented the 2011 Living Christmas Tree last weekend. Admission was free but patrons were encouraged to bring and donate a pair of shoes to help reach the Lose Your Sole campaign's goal of ten thousand pairs of shoes to give to the needy across the world.

Monastery to hold open house celebration Oct. 1

The Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers will host a free open house event on Saturday, Oct. 1, to celebrate the new Monastic Heritage Center, a museum showcasing the history of the monastery and the Cistercian Order. The 17,000-square-foot museum incorporates both new and renovated monastery structures and features videos, interactive displays and historical exhibits designed to educate and inspire visitors.

Andrew Covington and a band of volunteers departed for New Orleans last month on their "Just Geaux" summer mission trip.
