Pint-sized models will be striding down the "runway" in a day designed to make girls feel special this Saturday in Olde Town.

The "Pamper Me Pretty" fashion show and spa day will be held July 24, from 1 p.m to 5 p.m. at the Olde Town Gallery and Studio, hosted by the As I Am Girls Club and The Rag Owl. Girls ages 8 and older are invited to participate in the event, described as a "day of pampering, new fashions, and getting renewed... for a positive start to the new school year."

Fashions and styling will be provided by the Rag Owl consignment shop owners Lyndsay Clegg and Colye Justman. Tickets to participate are $12.

The show is a kick-off for the sign-up period for the As I Am Girls Club program, run by MeLisa Collins. The 10-month program provides a Facebook-like website where participants can post pictures, thoughts and ideas, and chat about the discussion topic of the week. The girls will also meet once a month in person to discuss topics.

"We've talked about arts and culture, about finances, how to get a job, being a team player, school, furthering your education," said Collins, who ran a similar program in Ohio. She said she started the program because, "For young girls, an idle mind is the devil's playground."

"I think it's very important to for girls to be able to talk about different things that aren't able to be covered in school or maybe they're not comfortable talking about with their parents."

Clegg became involved after talking with Collins, who has an office right above the Rag Owl store.

"With Lyndsay being so young and starting her own business, I think she's a great role model about starting your own business and following your dreams," said Collins.

The program is also looking for volunteers for the day of the event and donations.
