Conyers to maintain property tax rate

The city of Conyers announced it will keep its property tax rate to 9.41 mills - the same as last year.

Due to falling property values and a shrinking tax digest, mantaining the same millage rate would collect less revenue. To collect the same amount as last year, the millage rate would have to be raised to 10.03 mills.

The council decided against raising the rate due to concerns about the tax burden on businesses and citizens, according to a released statement.

“For the second consecutive year, the council and I felt it best not to increase city taxes,” said Mayor Randy Mills.  “While other governments are further taxing their constituents due to economic shortfalls, we are fortunate this year not to have to do so.”

The city council will hold a called meeting Wednesday, August 11, at 10 a.m. in the city manager’s office at City Hall, 1184 Scott Street, for the purpose of setting the millage rate.
