Loving thy neighbor the old fashioned way A group of churches are opening their doors and hearts to a program that would help house families fallen on hard times, but these churches need more congregations to participate to make the program a reality. Family Promise of NewRock, a local branch of a nationally known program, is looking for at least nine more churches to be part of a network that would temporarily house families in transition. |

Slip- sliding Away I had just warned my son's friend, "Whatever you do, don't walk on the driveway, it's covered with ice." Winter had blessed us with a beautiful snowfall and everything had frozen overnight. Of course, 9-year-olds know everything, so off to the driveway we went. I remember reaching out for him as he started to slip. Then, my feet swooped up in front of me. Have you ever fallen in slow motion? |

Pocket devotional: Meanwhile, back at the home ranch Saturday mornings would find my brothers and I glued to the weekly episode of the Lone Ranger and Tonto. A gang of villains would fire their guns and stampede toward dusty little towns. Folks would scurry out of sight. Someone would flag down the Lone Ranger and Tonto. They would race in as their trademark tune would play. The bad guys would surrender, the townsfolk would rejoice. Within an hour, safety would be restored. |

Food for the spirit Many people are seeking an alternate plan considering the economic downfall. However, for Grace Café, their alternate plan is an extension of God’s whole plan. |

Create in me a clean heart, O God Lent (derived from the Old English word for lengthen, as in the springtime lengthening of daylight) is a marvelous time of spiritual new beginnings and echoes the call of John the Baptist to repent, that is turn around, and believe the Good News. In the name and spirit of Jesus Christ, the historic church offers an intentional invitation to believers to get our hearts clean of sin and guilt, our lives re-centered on Jesus Christ ... |

A Place of Restoration Imagine having a wonderful marriage, thriving business and vibrant ministry, yet one day falling and losing everything. All you thought you had is now gone and you don't know who to turn to or where to go. For Pastor Angelo Moe of the Restoration Christian Center, this was not a hypothetical situation. This was the story of his life, and after coming through on the other side, he was moved to help others also despairing of ever getting back up again. |

Magic of Childhood Heart Beeps "Mommy, can you hear ‘em?" my 4-year-old gasped as he crash landed. "My heart beeps are so loud!" My smile slowly widens as I thumb through his preschool photos. |

Pocket Devotional: The change has come As this year has begun, it seems as if I have so much to do and at the same time many people are experiencing a spirit of brokenness. My creative mind is growing within every second of every day, my husband’s work load increases daily, needing my assistance and my children are growing needing more of my time. Outside of my personal life is my extended family, the ministry and church family. ... |

Sowing Seeds Going into the ministry was the furthest thing from the minds of Vanessa and Michael Loyd as they were raising their family. As a third generation pastor's kid who had seen the toll a pastor's work load could take on family life, Vanessa Loyd was adamantly dead set against anything that would lead her into the ministry. In youth group, if she met a guy who even hinted that he wanted to become a preacher, she made sure not to give him her phone number. |

Tadpoles and Talents My back sizzled as I squeezed through tangled branches. Shade brought a miniscule sense of relief. "There!" my ten year old big brother pointed. In the middle of the clearing were zillions of shallow puddles, filled with tadpoles. I thought that we were just going to pour our buckets to refresh the little things. But construction crews were plowing the lot next door. Our neighborhood was growing and our fort would soon be leveled. Immediately, ... |

Pocket devotional: What if they’re right? I dug through several dresser drawers before I found last year’s mittens. A quick inventory of milk and bread saved me the trouble of waiting in endless grocery store lines. I think that I was as excited as the kids while we watched the sky turn from a vivid blue to a shady gray. We sure had some drama during Winter Watch 2010. And it seemed that almost everyone had an opinion. |
