Northern Oklahoma College coach Donnie Jackson saw Rockdale's Dwayne Brown play at an unsigned senior showcase and knew he had to have the young talent. Jackson expressed his interest in Brown and eventually made an offer which Brown accepted and made official on Wednesday by signing his letter of intent to become a Tonkawa Maverick. Hometown HEROES

In the far northeast corner of Georgia, bordering the South Carolina line and more than 80 miles away from Newton/Rockdale County lies a small place called Elbert County with a of population 20,500 people as of 2012, according to elbertco.net. Elbert is significant to Newton and Rockdale because of the two coaches it birthed - Jonathan Brewer (Rockdale County High School head baseball coach) and Bruce Evans (Eastside High School head baseball coach) - and the men that it made them.

Rockdale (3-5) managed to score four runs in the first and final innings, but the Bulldogs couldn't overcome its own errors (seven) despite accruing more hits than North Oconee (nine to six) falling 7-4 Monday evening at home.

BACK and better than EVER

Senior forward Dwayne Brown lit up the Rockdale County High Cleveland Stroud gym on Wednesday to the tune of 26 points and 13 rebounds in a 60-56 win that put Rockdale in the sweet 16 of the state playoffs. Brown was named first team All-region this year, his first time playing varsity for a full season. Just a year-in-a-half ago Brown couldn't even walk.

Bulldogs survive Valdosta, head to second round state tournament

Rockdale leading scorer and All-region guard Connor Ferrell came into the game sick, All-region guard Jalen Jordan was on the second game of a two-game suspension for being thrown out of a game after two technicals against Newton, but All-region forward Dwayne Brown was at full strength and it showed.
