Goal line stand

The game came down to CeCe Green and the stout Salem defense. With 15 seconds left, ball at the Salem four-yard line and Winder-Barrow trailing 31-24, Kanome McIntosh intercepted a pass intended for Brandon Hayes and the game was all but over, or so we thought. The referee called a highly controversial pass interference penalty and it was Winder-Barrow ball at the one. Green got the call up the middle, but with no push from the offensive line Salem got the stop and the victory as the final seconds ran off the clock.

From the first quarter and beyond, the Apalachee Wildcats couldn't stand a chance. Under constant pressure throughout the entire game, the Wildcats key playmaker Alante Billings was under duress from Salem's front four, led by Robert Chambers and Behr Cooper.

Building a work ethic

A torn ACL is a jarring injury for anybody, but it was life-changing for a promising athlete in Salem's Ayanna Mitchell. Mitchell tore her ACL during freshman year in the semifinals of the region championships. For Mitchell, she had two choices, work hard and get better or be content with where she's at. Mitchell chose the former.

What a fourth quarter. Salem and Heritage when back and forth late in the fourth as both teams fumbled at least twice in the final period, but Salem held on to win 19-14.

Seminoles blowout Bulldogs

Salem just has Rockdale's number. The Seminoles showed no mercy - technically they showed mercy because of the mercy rule, but you get it - against the Bulldogs winning 15-1 in four innings. Rockdale put up a numerous amount of errors that led to their defeat, but Salem was able to put the bat on the ball recording multiple extra-base hits throughout the game. Salem will face off against Heritage on Thursday, where Patriots coach Jason McBay plans to accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
