Rockdale owns festivities at NewRock All-Star game

Rockdale County edged Newton out in three of the five All-Star events on Wednesday evening, as the Rockdale girl All-Stars won their game while representatives of Salem (Shay Tarver) and Heritage (Rashad Jones) won the girls and boys three-point contests respectively. Eastside's own Timothy Haynes won the dunk contest with a high-flying slam over two Alcovy players and the NewRock boys All-Star game ended in a tie after overtime. Rashad Jones signs with CGTC

Rashad Jones signed to play basketball at Central Georgia Technical College on Thursday afternoon. Jones will transition to point guard as the coach at CGTC says he loved Jones' game and felt he could contribute immediately.

With an impressive 7-2 victory over Luella on Teacher Appreciation Night, the Heritage Patriots clinched the No. 2 seed in the region when Salem beat Flowery Branch on the same night. HHS athlete of the week: Justin Jackson

Justin Jackson has been the best offensive player for Heritage this season. He went 3-7 in two games earlier in the week and he had a big homerun against Apalachee that stretched the Patriots' lead to two runs, eventually giving them the win.

Finding a way to win

Heritage is almost literally limping toward the finish line. Surviving may be a bit of an understatement for this Heritage baseball team. They're 11-7 (6-5 Region 8-AAAAA) despite being hit with enough injuries to force head coach Jason Borcherding into an early retirement.

Gut check time for the Lady Patriots

There are not many schools in the area that take soccer as serious as Heritage, nor are there many in the area as profound as the Patriots' soccer program, hence the Patriots' impressive booster club. But when the season is not going as planned, everyone involved in the program starts to worry.

Heritage blanks Woodland

We are only in the middle of march, and it's already time for meaningful baseball for local schools. Each team is trying to iron out all the wrinkles and form their identity as region play comes upon us within the next week, for most teams. The Heritage Patriots are one of those teams trying find their best baseball as their only a game away from region play. They made a huge step in that direction with an impressive 8-0 win against Woodland on Thursday evening.

Heritage/Salem earn All-region honors

Another year in the books for Region 8-AAAAA and now it's time to honor some of the best players to grace the floor this season, as well as the coaches. Heritage players Isaiah Banks, Rashad Jones and Asia Caldwell headline the teams, along with Heritage boys' head coach Vernon Denmark. Standouts Ayanna Mitchell, Shay Tarver and Austin Samuel represent Salem on the list.

Second-half surge leads HHS to win

The Patriots didn't play like a No. 2 seed in the first half against Riverwood. Heritage was down 24-15 at halftime, but was a completely different team in the second half and ran off to a 53-48 victory over Riverwood.
