Heritage to host softball camp

Heritage head softball coach Jason McBay will host the Patriots third annual softball camp between June 1-4 running from 9 a.m. to 12 noon each day for ages 6-14.

Allatoona played Dalton in the state championship on Friday, but they wouldn't have been there had Heritage been able to muster enough strength to take a commanding lead in the final 20 minutes. It didn't pan out that way and for the second straight year the Patriots march ended in the elite eight.

Elite Patriots advance to round 3

The Patriots did it again. This time it didn't take an extra period and/or penalty kicks to decide the game. In the second round at home, Heritage soccer defeated Richmond Academy 6-0 to advance to the elite eight where the Patriots will travel to play Allatoona on Saturday night 7:30 p.m.

Survive and advance

In an almost-quiet Evans Memorial Stadium, Akil Williams lined up to take the last PK of the night with the shots currently tied 3-3 needing a goal to earn a victory for Heritage and send them to the next round. Williams calmly took his spot, slightly jogged toward the ball and fired a goal in the back of the net to give the Patriots a 3-2 (4-3 PKs) win over Sequoyah to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

Heritage lives to fight another day

A competitive 80 minutes of playing time wasn't enough and neither was an extra 10 minutes of overtime to decide the Heritage/Sequoyah first round playoff contest. The Patriots pulled out a 3-2 victory after winning 4-3 in penalty kicks.

Rockdale owns festivities at NewRock All-Star game

Rockdale County edged Newton out in three of the five All-Star events on Wednesday evening, as the Rockdale girl All-Stars won their game while representatives of Salem (Shay Tarver) and Heritage (Rashad Jones) won the girls and boys three-point contests respectively. Eastside's own Timothy Haynes won the dunk contest with a high-flying slam over two Alcovy players and the NewRock boys All-Star game ended in a tie after overtime. Ayanna Mitchell was named MVP of the girls All-Star game where she totaled 18 points. Rockdale's Dwayne Brown and Newton's Malik Wilson were named Co-MVPs of the boys ...

HHS athlete of the week: Justin Jackson

Justin Jackson has been the best offensive player for Heritage this season. He went 3-7 in two games earlier in the week and he had a big homerun against Apalachee that stretched the Patriots' lead to two runs, eventually giving them the win.

Finding a way to win

Heritage is almost literally limping toward the finish line. Surviving may be a bit of an understatement for this Heritage baseball team. They're 11-7 (6-5 Region 8-AAAAA) despite being hit with enough injuries to force head coach Jason Borcherding into an early retirement.
