Rockdale school system scores higher than state on CCRPI

Rockdale public schools scored higher than the state as a system on the newly released Georgia College and Career Ready Performance Index, which measures schools and school districts on a 100 point scale. Rockdale's middle schools averaged slightly lower than the state and high schools averaged lower than the state average. The CCRPI is the new accountability system that replaces the No Child Left Behind Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measurement in Georgia. The U.S. Department of Education granted Georgia's waiver from NCLB on Feb. 9, 2012.

Rockdale County Public Schools announced its high school graduation ceremonies will be held at the Georgia International Horse Park this year as the three high school stadiums have their grass replaced with artificial turf.

Salem High, Hightower Trail Elementary teachers named Ga. Power grant winners

Two Rockdale teachers were among the 42 recipients named to receive Georgia Power's annual New Teacher Assistance Grants. Tishida Smith of Salem High School and Betsy Mitchell Hightower Trail Elementary will each receive $1,000 to help start their classroom careers.

Young named to Governor's Education Advisory Board

Gov. Nathan Deal today announced the new members who will serve on his Education Advisory Boards. The four boards are comprised of school superintendents, principals, teachers and local school board members from each congressional district who will meet with the governor and his staff over the next year to provide input on education policy issues facing the state.

School calendar options proposed, alternate graduation sites discussed

Rockdale County Public Schools is looking at two very similar calendar options for the 2015-2016 school year with a difference of a few days in the start and end dates. The school system is also looking at alternative graduation sites for high school graduations in May 2015 in order to get a jump start on replacing the grass in all three high school stadiums with artificial turf.

GPC shows enrollment increase

Georgia Perimeter College’s fall 2014 student enrollment showed a 1.2 percent increase over fall 2013, with 21,371 students signing up for classes. The increase reverses a two-year trend that also has been experienced by other institutions of higher education.

Rockdale high school four-year graduation rates for 2014 slipped by a few points compared to the previous year but Rockdale students are still graduating at a higher rate than the rest of the state, which increased its rate.
