Rockdale County Public Schools announced 22 school-level Teachers of the Year who will compete for the title of Rockdale County 2014 Teacher of the Year. One teacher at each school was selected by their peers for the honor of being named his/her school's Teacher of the Year. All 22 Teachers of the Year are educators to whom others look for inspiration and direction.

Magnet seniors present research at Japanese competition

Carlan Ivey and Larry Jacobs, both seniors at Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology, were recently recognized for outstanding research presentations at the 2014 Japanese Super Science High School Student Fair. This is the first time that an American school has been invited to exhibit at the annual Japanese student science competition that brings together over 5,200 of the top student scientists across Japan. Rockdale Magnet School was the only school from the United States among the 23 international schools that presented.

A Conversation With: Blake Craft

Blake Craft is the new headmaster of the Eastminster School, a private college prep school for students K-12 on Lennox Road in Conyers. Craft has a long history in local education, including as the longtime principal at Shoal Creek Elementary School. He started teaching in Rockdale County Public Schools in 1984 at Flat Shoals Elementary, where he won Teacher of the Year honors, and moved to the new Salem High in 1991 as a teacher and coach. At the end of the superintendent's second year on the job, the Rockdale County school board approved a 5 percent bonus, or $8,750, for Rockdale Superintendent Richard Autry in a split vote of 5-2 on Thursday, July 24.

Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC), along with event co-host, Georgia Chamber of Commerce, unveiled to an audience of industry executives, public officials and potential students, GPTC’s new Design and Media Production Technology (DMPT) and Recording Arts Technology (RART) programs and facility.
